History
The Ceylon Journal of Science was founded in 1924 by the government of Ceylon bringing together the Annals of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Peradeniya (first published in 1901), the Spolia Zeylanica (first published in 1903) and the Bulletin of the Ceylon Fisheries (first published in 1903). Different branches of science were covered by separately published sections A, B, C, D, E, F and G. With the establishment of the University of Ceylon in 1942, the administration of the Journal was taken up by the University of Peradeniya and Spolia Zeylanica reverted to its original status of a separate publication. In 1958, sections A, B and C comprising Botany, Zoology and Fisheries were combined as the Ceylon Journal of Science (Biological Sciences) series. Sections E and F (Mathematics, Physics, Meteorology and Chemistry) were published as the Ceylon Journal of Science (Physical Sciences) which later included Computer Science, Geology, Mineralogy, Science Education and Statistics. The former section D was named the Ceylon Journal of Medical Science in November 1965 and is now published by the University of Colombo.. Section G (Anthropology, Archaeology and Ethnology) has not been published since Vol. 5, Part 2 (June 1954).
The Ceylon Journal of Science (Biological Sciences) and the Ceylon Journal of Science (Physical Sciences) were amalgamated in 2016 and is now being published as the Ceylon Journal of Science, regaining its original name when it was launched in 1924. The Ceylon Journal of Science is published quarterly by the University of Peradeniya, and administered by the Faculty of Science. It caters research articles from different scientific disciplines under five themes;Chemistry; Earth and Environment; Mathematics, Statistics & IT; Life Sciences and Physics.
The journal is currently on track to becoming an "indexed international journal" adding an "academic prestige" to Sri Lanka and the region, and providing an invaluable opportunity for the Sri Lankan and international research community to publish their scientific research papers. We invite eminent scientists, academicians and researchers in Sri Lanka and other countries to submit their original research articles for publication in Ceylon Journal of Science.
